What can we really understand about social media engagement?

We got talking about their use of digital media in the communications department – as it is a subject so close to my heart. Although it seems to be something they’re keen on implementing, it appears that they’re just creating social media profiles and sticking content up, with no research done into who engages, when, why, how etc…
